Survey
A method of collecting information about a certain group of people. Below is a example of someone getting information on what sport people in like in a survey. Population
an entire set of items from which data can be selected. The group we are interested in knowing about. Data sometimes only shows the sample but tries to get the entire population worth of data by doing a survey. Sample
A part of the population that represents the population. Only somewhat of the population is actually surveyed (sample). Below shows a box and a circle in the box. The box represents a population while the circle represents sample. Parameter
a characteristic that describes the population. Random Sample
a sample selected from the population where every member of the population has an equal chance of being chosen. |
Biased
A sample is biased if individuals or groups from the population are not represented in the sample. Unbiased
A sample is unbiased if every individual in the population has an equal chance of being selected. Convenience Sample
Involving the sample being drawn from that part of the population which is readily available and convenient. Systematic Sampling
Involver choosing participants for a sample using a specific interval. Random Sampling
Random Sampling is sampling(way of sampling people in a sample) in which every member of the population have a even chance of being selected in the survey. Statisitc
a characteristic that describes the sample. |
